On a prior posting someone replied to me that a 770 has a "1,000 lb hydraulic system, so I don't split cylinders".
This brings up a question for me...I was planning on using the 3 point to move large rounds bales of hay 1,500 to 2,000 lbs...will this work or not?
If I try it will I hurt / break something?

Appreciate the input.

The 1,000 lb. refers to the pressure it can develop. More correctly, lbs per square inch (PSI). The pressure times the area of the piston gives you a force; thus on a 4 inch diameter cylinder, the area is (pi)x (radius x radius) or 3.14159 x(2 x 2)= 12.57 square inches. When you put 1,000 PSI against that, you get a force of 12,570 lbs. That is for the pushing stroke; the pull it can develop is reduced because the rod diameter reduces the area available to push against.

But given all that, it has no real bearing on whether your tractor is suitable for carrying large bales, sounds like Weaver has experience with them.

I lifted big round bales of grass hay last year with my 770 and traction hitch. I have a 4 inch cylinder on the three point, a wide front and 500lbs of weight on the front. The biggest problem I had was the front end coming up. I could not go uphill, except in reverse, another 250 - 300lbs on the front and I think it would be alright.

I have never tried a large round bail with my 770 but I think that you may have problems. I would think you would have to weight the front end down if you were able to lift them. I have seen small round bails carried with no problem but not the large ones. If I get the post hole digger stuck in a hole then I start to pull the front end off even with cast hubs and a wide front. If you have a small cylendar on the 3 point you can go to the larger one but your hydralics only have so much pressure. If you upped the pressure you may destroy the 3 point. I think I would go for a little beafier tractor if I was going to do any volume of it.

I have a 7 foot snowblower on one of my 770's with the power traction hitch. It weighs 900 lbs. and I have 2 front frame weights on front and wide front end. Another front weight wouldn't hurt me either...as info.....
