Ok,I was at a show yesterday and had someone ask me if there is a differnce between a GM Diesel and a Detriot Diesel? Is it the same thing and just a different name or are they two different companys of the two stroke engines? thanks.

Not a dumb question at all. The terms used to apply to all of the 2-stroke cycle Diesels that were manufactured by General Motors. The "Detroit Diesel" brand was primarily created so that any truck manufacturer could use one and not feel that they were promoting or endorsing GM (who of course also built trucks and buses). The newer Detroit Diesels are no longer 2-stroke, of course. And I am not sure whether they are still made by GM, or by Penske or whomever might ultimately own them.
