Here is my Auction report on the early 50's 66 row crop diesel. My max bid of $2,000 did not last long. The tractor sold for $4,000.

The tractor was a one owner tractor. But it had sat for a few years as the owner had become ill. It was a narrow front, with below average tires on the front and rear. The paint was faded and overall the tractor was in need of a good cleaning. The tractor did not start very well at the sale, which I thought increased my chances of picking this tractor up. Unfortunately an auction only takes two, and there were about five waiting to bid. I live in Southern Il and this was Oliver country in its day. Maybe next time I will get lucky, as for this time I wasn't even close.

Happens all the time. I've seen auctions where nothing brought much and others where you could buy a thing. Thats half the fun of going to them. I went to one a few years ago and a lincoln welder sold for twice what you could buy one new for. What was funny was when the guy said do you think I got a good buy and I told the truth. I told him he could have got a new one for half what he payed and he was not pleased. But I see that all the time, people have no idae what things are worth some times.

I think in the case several people had a pretty good idea what it worth. A 66 diesel is a rare item and fairly desirable as a collectors item. If it had a gas engine that would be at least twice what it's worth but a 66 diesel in the condition described should be worth $4000 or a bit more.

I have seen that too... and some of the worst offenders are the auctioneers themselves... they need to have a better clue sometimes what they are selling ... JUST BECAUSE ITS GREEN DONT MAKE IT JD.

I was at a sale a couple weeks ago stuff went cheap --- I bid just to help the old man out on 2 things... it was that bad.

and then a sale by same auctioneer last winter hand tools new in the box were brining more than the price sticker that was on them LOL...
