My mother in-law has an Oliver out in the barn. It says "Row Crop" on the axle and has the following numbers cast into the left side of the engine "185220" above "M100". It is a 6 cyl gas engine with narrow wheeled front end. She wants to sell it. Any help with what year, what it is, worth how much, is greatly appreciated.

thanks a bunch.

Fred

Well if its like what BA said and its a 77 it could be worth from around $200-2000 depending on sheet metal tires etc.

It is a 77. Oliver 77's were built from 1948 to 1953. It will have a serial number tag on the RH side of the transmission in front of the axle if it is a early one or on the lower part of the dash if it is a later tractor. So much depends on condition as to how much it is worth.

Thanks B A Star and old. You were right. That and I stopped by the White River Valley Antique Show at Elnora today and actually got to see some 77"s and 88"s and compare. With that info I went back and found the serial number "343864 C77D". Now how do I get from that to the year? I assume it was made in "1964? Any help is appreciated, again. When I put this up for sale, where is the best place? ebay? or is there a collectors site that would be better?

thanks again. PS: Anyone in southern IN or IL should make it to Elnora and check out the show.

Fred

Please Read Mr Star's post again. The serial number tag should have been on the side and it is a 1951 Row crop. You can also check out the Hartparr Oliver collectors web site as well as the Oliver gang to start with as For Sale Items are listed there too.

OK. I read it again. How does one arrive at 1951 from the serial number 343864 D77D?

thanks,

Fred

You only use the 6 digits. The C77D is the code for the gear train (transmission & final drive)

OK. Would someone please explain in simple english, what is the algorithim for converting the serial number "343864" to a specific year of manufacture. For example what do each of the numbers mean? What is the code for converting serial number to year? If it's simply a matter of knowing what the first serial number of each year was, then please print the first and last s/n for the year in which this tractor with s/n "343864" was manufactured.

thank you.

Dont know the algorithm, but there is a section to the left that contains (under Research & Info) a link to the serial # page. Look under Oliver wheel tractors, and then under 77 Row crop.
