I have transplanted a Dual speed PTO from an 1855 with hydraulic clutch into my 1850.I used the hydraulic port on the right side with the by-pass open, then to a 3-way closed port spool valve preset at 1500 PSI (adjustable from 1000-3000) then to the PTO valve on the PTO housing. Seems to work but the brake doesn't. Problem #1. Hydraulic fluid ends up in the final drive case. 2.PTO Brake doesn't work 3. 3 point hitch arms don't lift 4. Can't shut off the PTO. Must shut off aux. valve first. Any suggestions?

The 55 series pressure reducing valve in the valve housing is set at 185 PSI and dumps to the return at 240 PSI. If the three spokes in the clutch drum haven not already broken, they will shortly ! Does the lubrication port in the transmission housing line up between 50 series and 55 series ?

B A Star,
You were right. The clutch drum broke. Everything else appears to be ok. Yes, the lubrication ports do match between the 50 series and 55 series. I have abandoned this project altogether and will look for a 50 series PTO. Thanks for your help.
Al

This is the most interesting post so far today!
Why did you think the 55 series PTO would work on a 50 series tractor? Second question Do you understand the hydraulic system on a 50 series and the PTO and hydraulic system on a 55 series? Do you have good shop manuals for both series? Did you mean closed port or closed center 3-way valve. Closed port valves can be open or closed center. Where did this 1500 psi value come from? Get back to us later. The ball is in your court!

1. At the time I didn't relize there was a difference.
2.Very limited.
3. I & T for both
4. meant closed center.
5. That was what the valve was set at from the factory. (Prince)
Will remove the PTO in the next few days or so and get back to you later if any progress occurs.

Wow that is interesting!! a closed system device on an open system, I would tap off of the priority valve for the steering with a valve designed for a closed system, I don't know how the 55 pto gets its hydraulic feed but if it's internal(like through the mounting gasket) it would need to be plugged.

1500psi is about 7.5 times more pressure than the system was designed to have. If the pto clutch and brake piston seals were not blown before they probably are now-the oil will go to the rear end if they are.

Yes As most of you know I answer 95% of these questions from memory of my experiences. I could not remember is the pressure is 200 or 300 psi in round numbers and of course they control that with a pressure reducing valve also if he loosened the bleed screw on the right side you loose your 3 point.
