Miss at start up

The tractor is up and going. I am going to put the 3pt on it this evening along with the step tool box. Now I must face my last issue.

The tractor has a miss at start up. It misses approximately 4-5 times and then runs smooth. The misses are minor, but noticeable. If the tractor is started warm it does not miss at all. It only misses when the tractor is cold. Does anyone have any idea what would cause such a thing. The head was redone and the energy cells were cleaned. However, could one be sticking? Any thoughts would help.

I was told that my neighbors Super 77 gas does the same thing and he has ran it for years like that, which might very well be the case. However, I did not labor many hours, for my tractor to miss.

For those of you who do not know, the tractor I am working on is a 1958 Super 88 Diesel.

Thanks in advance,
Shaun

Here we go again. Take the exhaust manifold off and see if the miss is one cylinder or if it moves. Did you put seats in the head for both intake and exhaust seats? If you did what was the intake valve recession set at and did he set the stem height of the exhaust valves to match. The boy's 4020 does that also and it is a compression problem when cold. Questions?

If it only misses 4 or 5 times, it would seem like an injector leaking a little air in after shutdown. I've had cylinders with low compression miss until warmed up, but takes a couple or 3 minutes to heat up enough to cure the problem.

Thanks for the comments. I would say it misses 6-7 times at most and sometimes as few as two or three. After that, PERFECT! I can't beat the way it runs. Thanks for the comments. I will investigate further.

The head shop did have to replace one valve seat and all the valves. I do not remember if it was an exhaust or intake seat that was replaced. I will try to remove the manifold and see if I can get it narrowed to one specific cyclinder. Outside of low compression in one cyclinder, is there anything else that could cause this, or is this the only option.

Thanks in advance,
Shaun

Could be air in the injector lines, my 1650 does the same if I run it low on fuel until I bleed the injectors, also an injector could be bleeding down slowly and it is taking a few seconds to build up to firing pressure again.
