Was at a tractor pull couple weeks ago and they had a dyno set up for any one who wanted to check there tractor out. Guy with 1850 cockshutt diesel put out 110 HP . I talked to him after and he said it just had the pump turned up a bit, had about 3000 hrs on it. I was impressed. Also have a friend with 1850 cockshutt that he uses on the farm blowing snow etc. and he says it is a great tractor.

92 HP is about right but I the size in the previous posts is incorrect. The engine is 354 cu in. Regarding the engine itself, I have found the Perkins 354 engine in the non-turbo configuration as found in the 1850 series to be a most durable and efficient engine. The engines start easily, have a very wide power band and run for years. When they do need work a rebuild is about as cheap as you can get for a mid sized diesel engine. The 1850D is a great tractor with a great engine, likely one of best of any make made during the 1960's.

The oliver 1850 Diesel with the 354 Perkins from the factory put out 92 certified hp.Our 1855 mfwa has the 354 perkins in it and is turbocharged and is putting out 135 hp. The 1850 was a very dependable tractor with a efficient motor as well.

Hello Dave,
Went back to the Wendel just to make sure I read it (or typed it) right. Both test 869 for the 4WD and 870 done in 1964 say its a 352 CID. Could there be a different calculation for another author's test result or interpretation. I have always said I had the 352 because of these tests. You mean to say I have a bigger motor than I thought? :)

Any time I have looked at parts for the engine from Agco or at a Perkins shop it is listed as having 354 cu in. I doubt that there is another calculation, probably a misprint or technical error from the time of the test or printing.

My Nebraska test book (test #870 by Wendel in 1964) lists the 352 ci perkins motor with 92.94 PTO Horsepower. The drawbar HP varied with ballast weights and gear selection. It hovered around 66 HP. Hope that helps.
