Okay.... I finally got that steering box bottom bearing race out, but it did take some heat and more banging. The heat really did the trick. I didn't feel comfortable trying to lay a welding bead around the bearing without hitting the casting, as some suggested, it was just too far recessed. I did feel confident that putting a welding tip flame concentrated on the bearing wouldn't hurt the casting though. The heat did crack the bearing, and must have shrunk it just enough to get the thing out. It did take some more pounding to get out. The problem with that exit hole at the bottom is that you can only push on one side of the bearing and it comes out on a slant, which in all logic would bind it more. Just got to clean it up tomorrow, prime paint and rebuild with the new bearings and bushings. You wouldn't believe how bad the bearing that ran in that cup was. It was missing rollers and badly out of shape.
