New hand!

I have not seen the tractor yet. I have a couple of questions for those in the know.

Does the 70 have a live/independent PTO?

What horsepower would it have? 70?

Could it operate a square baler MF 9?

If in good running condition what would it be worth?

What are the most common problems to look out for?

Did the 70 change much through the years?

If you're planning to work it, especially baling, you'd be well advised to look for something else. Non-live PTO, marginal power, PTO shaft is high on the rear housing, leading to safety and shaft-life problems, etc. These old girls have probably earned a well-deserved retirement and restoration, IMHO. As others have said, 77's and 88's would be a much better choice.

no live power usually no hydraulic. about 22-28 hp will run a baler but there are issues. the engine is very exspensive so make sure it is good. watch for cracks in the frame/rearends. they are going up a little in value but anything over $1500 would have to be unreal condition. there were several changes but not exstencive. watch out for the 40 rears tires!

The 70 is right at 30 HP give or take a little. It might pull a square baler but that would be all it would want. If I remember right it will have a live pto. As far as worth that depends on a lot of things like tires sheet metal etc. One that is running can go for as little as $500 or as high as $3000.

No, live power take off was never on the 70's.
If you want a tractor for your baler, you would be better off with a 77 or better yet a 770. More power, live PTO and probably hyd.
