i know this space is for tractor discussion but i need to know if anyone can tell where to find out about the timing of an oliver 550 baler or where to get an owners manual to fix it with. thank you lynette

My father had a 60 baler and I asked him how to time it.Yours may or may not be the same.

To time the knotter,take the chain off and set the knotter to where it just starts to turn to tie and set the plunger fully into the bale chamber just ready to begin going forward.Replace the chain and turn the baler over by hand on the flywheel.If the timing isn't correct you jump the chain one link at a time experimenting until you find the right setting.

To time the fingers that pull hay into the chamber the plunger should be fully extended and the fingers as far away from the bale chamber as possible when you put the chain on.

Are you sure it is not a 520.not that it would matter but would help you in obtaining a book.Oliver balers imop are a real pain to time unlike N.H.balers they do not have any marks to line up.I have a 720 that has been driving me nuts only one out of the three i have that wont time.Havent had time to take it apart again but i believe that one of the newer parts in the knotters(happens to be red not green)has had the keyway moved which has caused the machine to be out of time.Do you by chance have any other colored parts on your baler.Also if you have a Heston dealer close (or one who sold heston)they bought the balers from white,and carried on the 720 under new skin.sorry not much help good luck.

Try your local White dealer which you can locate at www.agcocorp.com and going on the White tractor page's Dealer Locator. They can provide a manual if you wish and advice.
