Howdy folks,

I'm looking to talk (via email) to several people who have managed to keep or even buy back their Dad's Oliver tractor. Specifically, Oliver models 1555 and bigger. I'm putting together a potential magazine feature about folks who have kept or re-purchased these tractors. I'm looking for the stories behind the family tractor and why you treasure the old Olivers. PLease email me at [email protected] and I will get back to you with some questions and more about what I'm trying to write. Thanks, Rodney.

My dad purchased a 1655 new in '74 or '75, kept it till '86 when he sold out. An uncle bought it, ran it into the ground next 10 years. A cousin bought it, he and I rebuilt it, took another block, head, crank, pistons etc. Lots of other goodies, but now is in 1st class shape, just ready to be painted.

I WISH I WAS LUCKY AS SOME OF YOU'S. I TRIED LOCATING MY DAD AND UNCLES 1800, AFTER MANY DEAD ENDS, I GAVE UP AND PURCHASED A SIMILAR 1800. BUT MY UNCLE HAS MY GRANPA'S 88, ITS COMPLETELY RESTORED, MY 1ST TRACTOR DRIVING WAS ON THE 88. IT WAS SO FUNNY, MY DAD AND UNCLE PURCHASED 3 DIFFERNT TRACTORS STARTING IN 1968 TO REPLACE THE 88, BUT THE OLD 88 KEPT FINDING WORK AND STAYED WITH THE FARM TILL THE END, WHILE THE OTHER TRACTORS WHERE TRADED OFF OR SOLD. ONE THING DID CHANGE ON OUR FARM ' A DIFFERNT SHADE OF GREEN IN 1972, THE 1800 WAS TRADED IN FOR A JD 4430. FROM THAT POINT ON WE HAD ALMOST ALL JD.

Dad still has his 1755 that he bought new in 1973 (I think). It is a wide front diesel with dealer installed Hiniker cab. Would be happy to get you any info or pictures you need. I was the one who sent you a bunch of info on a 550 some time back.

We still have Dad's 1955. I have since rescued two 1655's and a 5100 planter from the junkyard and use them to farm with.

Many, many still have their dad's late model Oliver.

I have the 880 that my Dad bought new in 1959 also the semi mounted plow that would only work on an 880 or 770.

I've got my grandpa's Oliver 1600, almost done restoring it, should be done within a week. I've also got his 565 plow to go behind it. I wish he never would've sold that HP 70 on rear steel.... also had a set of rear rubber in good shape for it.

We bought back the first new tractor that Grandpa ever sold at his dealership - a 1936 18-28. It's not a late model, but pretty special to us.
