I am afraid this tis the first of many questions I will have on motor assembly. I have the crank, pistonsand rods, and camshaft istalles and I have become stumped. I am looking at the shaft on the front of the crank , the timing cover and the crank pulley and I cannot tell how the oil seal gets installed. Their is a oil seal in my gasket kit I assume is the seal ( tyoe with rubber ring) but i cannot tell what it presses in to ( to keep it in place). I have held it over the crank pulley ( part that slides over the crank) and it does not fit snug. I am completely lost.

Please help

thanks

No wonder you are stumped!. Do get a book. Also a parts book is a good investment. But for now, UNLESS you have the replacement cover which was offered as a replacement cover after production of the 1800 had come to an end you need a face type seal which is made from cork. Do soak that seal in oil for a day before installing it. Also check the inside of the cover, if it badly scored where that seal runs it will leak after you put it together. Questions?

Ihave an IT manual and it wasnt clear to me when I read the procedure. The timing covear I have is " smooth" on the inside ( doesnt have a pocket for a rubber lip seal) so I assume it did'nt get the upgrade. When you say cork face seal - is that look like a cork "donut"? I found a cork circle in the gasket kit that looks like the inside diameter is close to the crank pulley diameter(although not tight). If that is it,do I put the crank pully through the timing cover- then place the cork ring on the pulley from the back side and then install the assembly?

I'll make sure to soak it in oil first and check the cover for wear. I'm new to Oliver so I have not seen this arrangement before. Thank- you

Is your cork donut spring loaded with a wave type spring and the cork is attached to the metal? Also tell me how many grooves your pulley has and the 2 casting numbers on it. You are trying to make this difficult. Along the same lines, what type of rear seal do you have? If a lip type seal, does your crank flange have a wear sleeve? The seals are not the same for a crank with or without a wear sleeve. Also why not tell us the serial number of the tractor. There are some difference between the A & B series engines. Questions?

John,

I have converted several of the 190 wauk

to lip seals , both front and rear . Front was

just a mater of boring the cover to fit a seal,

rear seal holder was made from 1 inch thick

piece of alum bored to fit seal and counterbored

for the mounting bolts. Milled a radius around

the top to match the cork seal wear plate, and

drilled+ taped the bottom for the pan bolts.

One was for a 190DLB and one for a 190GLB and

have a super 55 in now , it may get modified .

Hi George. Not a problem to do that. Except most of us don't have a machine shop. Send me an e-mail I need to chat with you. Later J. Schwiebert

I apprecitate your patience. Here is the information your requested:

- the pulley has 2 grroves and casting #"s 221195 and 104057A

- the serial # is 144369-844

I am unsure what a wear sleeve is but I can tell yo the rear seal is a rubber seal. The piece that the seal is inseted in has a casting # of 155717A and 163617.

I really mistated what I found in the gasket set. It is actually a white felt "donut" that is about 1/4 to 3/8" thick. The cork "donut" is a seperate piece that is seperate. Sounds like I may not have what I need.

I agree that I am making this too hard! Just want to do it right.

Thanks

If you have never rebuild a engine before,I would suggest get a shopmanual for that engine and study it well and again till you toroughly understands what it takes to rebuild an engine, otherwise it will only be grief and costly te boot. good luck to you
