I am new to Olivers, so was wondering if someone could help me? If a Oliver 70 that has the 40" tires, I am told these tires are almost impossible to find?, new or used? What are other options?, change the 40" to 38" rims?, as I am told the 38" tires are available? The 38" rims can be innerchanged easily? Any ideas on these tires/wheels? Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

730, there was a source of supply recently at like $400 each hard to find used ones i have one and trashed two more. 36 was also an option. 40 inch was popular in the 1930 but did not make a go of it for long.

Things may have changed since, but about a year ago this was the info that was told to me:
A single size of 40" tire is still available. The manufacturer makes this for center pivot irrigation use, but will work for your Oliver. Very pricey.
A better choice might be to find some 38" rims and convert it over. Am I mistaken here? If so, please correct me anyone.....

Thank you Kruse! These tires are 11x40, and I was told by Miller tire "good luck, I wish I could get them, molds were destroyed and know one makes them", so not sure what the irrigation tires would be, maybe someone will have some ideas?, please. From what I hear, changing over to 38"s is the way to go, but would be nice to keep the 40", as I understand this was a option for the 70"s. There was a tire dealer (not Miller tire) that was at the Expo over eastern Iowa this past July, he had someone from California that wanted his 40" tires that was for the Oliver 70"s, they were NOS and he wanted $1200.00 for the pair, I DON"T THINK SO!! :)
Thank you!

A google search produced a site that might have some 40" tires in the 9.5 size. They are probably close enough to where nobody would notice the difference. Try www.millertire.com
However, I think when you see the price you will convert it to 38" tires.

I would also keep your eyes open for some used, crappy 40" tires, since this tractor won"t be your bread-and-butter every day user anyway.

Thank you Kruse! Yes, I think a conversion might be the best, but I do have one good 40", the other is bad (holds air), but is weathered and is very worn. I did see the prices, picking myself off the floor as we speak, they are proud of those tires!! :) One more good used tire may be the answer also. Thanks again!

Good luck finding even one good tire. I looked for a couple years before finally swapping a parts tractor I had for a set of hubs, wheels, and tires in the 13.6x38 size. One thing, though....I had to purchase wheel weights to be able to have enough traction to plow or do any kind of heavy tillage with it.

Thanks Mike. Could I ask what to expect to pay for 38" wheels? Not sure where to start, we have a salvage area East of Des Moines, may start there or put something out on this web site looking for wheels.

Thank you!
Todd
