I've been looking for a small utility loader tractor with no luck and saw an Oliver 1600 with a loader in the classified for about what I was looking at spending on a smaller utility tractor. I currently have a Farmall M and was going to just keep it to do mowing and stuff like that and add the utility tractor.

This might be a better option to just sell the Farmall M and pickup the Oliver instead. I really don't need 2 tractors (although it would have been nice to have them)

This almost seems like to good of a deal to be true? What type of things should I be asking about? This will be an over the phone transaction for the most part. (I'm about 500 miles away from the tractor) I searched the board for Oliver 1600 stuff and it sounds like they are a good tractor.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, Nathan

You may need to check a bone yard for a tractor to get the parts from. I'm not up on Olivers, but on some other tractors it takes a lot of parts and a lot of work to put a stock 3 point on a wheatland. You might want to consider trying to use... something like this:

It looks like a weatland model,so it could be a little shorter than a rowcrop.

So the wheatland model wouldn't have a 3 point or a PTO?

That would explain the cheap price if that's the case.

Now you can not say that. You can have a wheatland with 3 point also PTO. I see it has a Hydra-Power. Also ask the serial number. The 64 models came with a 248 cubic inch engine in the gas while the 63 models came with a 231. Of course 40 years after it was new things could have changed.Questions?

I sent him an email and it does have a PTO but not a 3 point. Any idea how much it would take to get a 3 pt hooked up on one of these?

Also he mentioned that the loader right now works with the tractors own hydraulic system by having the outlet lever pulled back all the time, but it does have another set of valves that it goes through one for up and down and one for the bucket to up and down.

Is that normal?

If it had a 3 point I could definetly use it for everything I would need.

Thanks for any additional thoughts.

Nathan

There should be power beyond for that, then it'll free up the remotes. Kind of a screwy set up for a loader, but I've heard of it being done before. Should also be a lever for a second pair of remotes, they hook up on the other side of the transmission if you want/need them. Donovan from Wisconsin

Loader noted as Du-all, not specific to Oliver?. Farmhand model if I remember had its own valving- pump could be off PTO, or seperate pump added to engine, or tractors own hydralics. Probably same type here..
