my baler hangs knots on the bill hooks, maybe one out of 6 times, sometimes left sometimes right. if i hvae the baler cranked down too tigh for bigger bales, will it cause this? i have backed the bill hooks off to the point they are loose, seem way too loose to me. i have switched over to plastic twine, which actually made things a bit worse, so any advice on this thing would be great. my books are not telling me anything about this problem.

i have tried the trick of watching the sweep arms while turning by hand. they seem to move along the bill hook just fine, other then there is wear in the sweep arm shaft. when i was using sisal, the twine would break, making me think i have it cranked down way to far. usually what i have to do, is cut the twine off the bil hook. it makes a really nice knot though.

Several possibilities- 1, the arm that sweeps the knot off the billhook is out of adjustment. With operators manual in hand, have someone manually turn the flywheel while you watch it go through a knotting cycle, and note where the sweep first contacts the bottom of the billhook. If its out of adjustment, you have to bend it- its cast iron, but will bend if your careful. 2, tension cranked down too tight- depending on the wear on the knotter in general, you can only bale about so tight, then the increased tension causes the knot to be so tight on the billhook that it won't sweep off. If you want big, tight bales, take large amounts of cash to your local NH dealer and buy a new one. 3, go back to sisal twine, and use the larger diameter- its much more forgiving than plastic (I had a NH baler that would bale with plastic until the grease in the knotters warmed up, then missed bales like crazy; switched to 7200 sisal and missed maybe one in a hundred).

I would make sure it is still in time first. When ours had trouble tying/notting it was usually the problem. It helps if you have a book, good investment. Hope this helps.

I haven't had your problem on my 60 baler yet, but
I've been told to take the bill hooks out and polish them up with crocus(sp?) cloth.
Good Luck.
Mel

i checked timing last night and seems to be right on the money. i had somoene manually turn it over and it worked like a charm, so something tells me it has to be under too much tension when running. i will try this weekend again and back off tension and let everyone know. if anyone can think of anything else, please let me k now.
