What size alternator should be on a 1650 Gas, why does my battery keep boiling dry? Should I check the voltage regulator? Help, it's getting really frustrating, and we need to use the tractor.

If you're boiling the battery dry, the regulator is bad. If your 1650 has a stock alternator, it's equipped with an external regulator. It's simple to replace - it's mounted near the alternator and a single plug connects all the wiring. It's the same regulator that's used on most cheap GM cars from 1963 thru the early 70's - available at any NAPA, etc.

FYI - The stock gas 1650 alternator is rated at 37 amps - at least that's what came on mine.

The voltage regulator is bad in the alternator. I have a 100 amp alternator to be able to run my planter. The amount of amps has nothing to do with your problem. You can put one in your self if your so inclined. Not a real difficult job. You need to check bearings and such while it is on the bench and apart. Take it to a rebuild shop if your not sure of your self or don't have help.
