Over the next few months (well, maybe this coming Winter.....) I will be doing an overhaul on an Oliver 70. While I am a mechanic, I've never done a 70 before so I would appreciate some beforehand advice. I read awhle ago that there are some bearings on a 70 that are hard to find. Would these be con or main bearings? Also, are these a removeable sleeve or do they get bored? Who makes a good replacement piston? ANY advice or experience on this engine would be appreciated. TIA.

I finished a 1936 HP 70 this spring, I bought most of of my parts fron NAPA, they are reasonable, they have rod, main and camshaft bearings. I ruined the oil pump bearing, so had to get another set [no individual bearings for camshaft] only about 25.00 dollars. I made a set of cam bearing tools, the second try went fine. I have three extra bearings. NAPA has rings at a verry reasonable price. As I remember the parts were listed under the Continental engine and not the Waukashaw. Hope some of this helps. Delbert

The 70 engines are wet sleeve. I've been ordering all my rebuild stuff from Maibach Tractor (800) 808-9934. I think some of the oversize bearings may be getting harder to find. Also valves are expensive. Maibach has them but they have to purchase them then have them machined.(that's on the early 5 gear engines) Larry Coltrin
