Got my oliver Heritage the other day,I see that it has a auction listing in it for a Oliver consigment auction in Lyndon Station Wi.
It has a few items that any self-respecting Oliver person could not live without.
Everyone needs a 840 forage chopper right?Anyway my joy was short lived when I tried to vist the website listed and I did not get anywhere.
I also see that it has a early style 88,just my thought but that tractor must of been the best one Oliver ever made, because of the limited production run(what around 1300 or so)you would not have thought that many would be around but it seems every show or tractor round-up or large auction seems to bring one up.(by the way we have one but it needs alot of love)

Is that the Self Propelled model chopper? that could be fun,... we have a Fox 3000 and I beleive the heads would fit right on.

The 840 is a Self-propelled Forage Harvester.

I live in Kaukauna, about 1/2 hr South of Green Bay. Boy I would love to have one, but I doubt I'd;

A: be able to make it
B: convince my dad we need one
C: come up w/ the funds to get it
D: come up w/ a way to get it home
or
E: all of the above

when is the auction amnyways? I havn't gotten my issue yet

Sale date is the 18 of August getting it home could be interesting, think of the story you could write about driving it home.Sale also has a 12 row planter pull that behind chopper(picture it swaying across two lanes behind chopper keeps traffic lite)

I think I still would like to try and go. I got my O.H. today, saw the ad myself. I plan to makje it to atleast 1 day at the show down there, hopefully I can actually get my 1600 going. The dealer I go to for parts goes to a bunch of shows so I might be able to have my 1600 hitch a ride on their semi trailer. Might be able to put an 840 on there also.... I'll have to wait and see what my tractor funds look like before I make any decisions.

That 12 row planter would sure beat the 4-row we use now!!

Early 88 in reply to drsludge, 06-26-2005 14:19:38
I've recently acquired an old 88 that is a composite of two tractors, a 1950 and an early 1948. In the parts I got with the tractor was a front grill assembly but the radiator cap cover is a little different. It hinges at the top of the "Oliver" grill center bar and has ridges in it. Is it from the early 88? I figured since you had one you'd know. Thanks.

Good question to tell you the truth I have not ran the tractor in about 20 years, spent one summer plowing with it with a clutch plow(I-H slat bottom)had carb problem let it sit too long and the motor froze, havent touched it.I cant even tell you if it has a raditor cap assembly, dont recall ever lifting it up.Tractor does need some hood work and the rear panels, dad did just pick up some front panels for it.

I finally figured it out. It is the nose piece from an early '48 88 Oliver and someone had somehow mounted a pair of fleetline inserts over top of the openings, thankfully without damaging the nose piece. Since I've got a fleetline hood and side panels, I'll put the fleetline nose and grills on it even though it's a '48 frame.

It's just been an item of curiousity ince I've not seen any other cap covers like it. I appreciate your answer!
