I can't get my 880 gas to govern right. Idle is about 1000-1200, high no-load idle is about 1550-1600.

The throttle linkage is good with the exception of the pin in the throttle arm on the quadrant, but that only puts me off about a notch.

I've set the gove linkage per the shop manual.

Carburetor arm has full throw and carburetor goes from closed to full open. Don't see any adjustment on it anyway.

Tractor will run 2500 if I take the linkage off and just run off the carburetor lever. Will idle rough at 500 but wants to die much below that.

This has a M-S carb and intake manifold maybe off a 1650. No numbers on the carb.

My understanding is I increase the high no-load rpm by adjusting the governor rod back of the the carb. Should adjust low idle on the screw on the carb lever, but it doesn't even come close to being down to idle. The throttle linkage is holding it well back.

Is there a possiblity that you may have a vacuum leak in the intake manifold?

Remember springs give it more, weights take it away. How many active coils in the spring? Also unhook the rod that goes from the bell crank to the spring. If you pull on it can you increase the RPM more than what you have now. On your runs rough below 500, put a vacuum gauge on and check your readings. Start there.

I get the impression the rod from the bell crank is too long. The adjustment nut is so far down the treads that the end of the rod hits against the bracket, so it can never get the carburetor lever down to the idle position.
