I took my W40 loader of my Oliver 1800A so I could see better while mowing and am having trouble re-connecting one of the hydrolic quick connect couplings. A friend said he thought there was too much pressure in the line. He recommended that I get a bucket and press the ball in on the male fitting to release some of the fluid. He stressed that I should not try to reuse this hydrolic fluid because it is quickly contaminated. Anyway, I need to know what type hydrolic fluid I need. The fluid in the lines now has a reddish tint to it. Thanks for the help.

If it has a slight redish tint, it's probably IH Trans/hydraulic fluid. How long have you had this tractor, and do you know anything about the previous owner, or if he drove IH's. If he had those, chances are he used one oil for everything to keep it simple. If you don't know the last time the oil was changed, it wouldn't hurt to do it at this time. Atleast the filter.

Also, most Ollies I've run across tend to have some pressure in the lines as long as the tractor is running. It may help to shut it down first, if you havn't already.

the Operators and Service Manual calls for tractor fluid/ hydraulic fluid which meets Oliver Spec 55 . Tractor Supply sells a premium tractor/hydraulic fluid which , according to the back of the 5 gallon container , meets that spec . NAPA also sells a premium hydraulic fluid which meets Oliver spec 55 as does Farm Bureau locations .

It is probably Automatic transmission oil. You can refill with that or with any good quality universal hydraulic fluid.
