Fork-lift based on Oliver 55

A friend (not on the net) just purchased a fork-lift. He says that the main tractor is an Oliver 55, and the data plate is missing. The lift itself reads "Mighty Lift". Does anyone out there have any knowledge of such a piece of equipment? He would like to find out where he can find manuals, approx. year of the thing, did Oliver actually make it or was it done by a sub-company, etc. Please reply to e-mail if you can help!

In addition to the information already posted about the Super 55 fork lift and the 550/551 versions; the series was later continued as a White-Oliver 2-44 Industrial. It used basically the same Oliver Super 55/Oliver 550 tractor with more updated sheet metal and was painted an industrial yellow. I believe it was made up to the early-to-mid 1970's.

My email is screwing up lately so I hope you read this message. Besides, someone might correct me or back me up on this info.
The forklifts made by Oliver were, first, the Super 55 forklift, which used the Super 55 tractor and had the differential spiral bevel gear on the side of the spiral bevel pinion, this made it so that you basically had 6 reverse gears and 2 forward. This was because the lift was attached to the rear of the tractor and the seat and steering were reveresed also. Other than that it is a Super 55 tractor. The lift tower was manufactured by K-D Manufacturing Co. of Waco, Texas. Apprently there were also models 550 and 551 models after the Super 55, just as there was the Model 550 tractor. If your friend,s tractor has a front that is rounded looking it's a Super 55 (1954-58)if it is boxy it is most likely a a 550 or 551(1958-64).
Another forklift was a Model 552 (1965-67). It had improved styling and and stability. It looks more like a forklift than a tractor , but it still had the large tractor tires.
