well cant get enough of a good thing i guess..have let the 550 set for now and am on to a 660 with serial number that doesnt match..havent seen it... just phone conversation..says the numbers on the tag are 36022 and 77508606...according to wendels oliver book the 2nd number matches nothing...1st number could possibly be a super 66 but in 1955 ended with 27842..and then in 1956 started with 39371..what happened to the numbers between those two years..did they just skip numbers or did they miss them in the book..any help on unraveling this mystery is greatly appreciated..if i get this one bought i guess the 550 will be next in the shop..thanks again to all

The numbers that you have listed are good numbers for a 660. 36022 is OK, however it is short one digit. It should be 36-XXXX. The model number for a 660 is "36". Super 66 was either "16" or "26". The last four digits tells us how it was equipped when built in the plant. The numbers 77508606 needs to be broken down. 77 508 is the serial number. It was built in 1959. 606 breaks down to: "6" is the model or a 660. All were built with a "C6" transmission, since they did not use letters, the "C" became a 0, thus a 06 powertrain or a 606= a 660 with a C6 PT. I have attached a photo of my 660 S/N 73 XXX. I have the build card for it and it was final assembled on January 14, 1959. The engine serial number is stamped vertically on the rear Right Hand side flange in front of the sheet metal plate at the rear of the engine.

Remember models are not numbered concectively. It is a very early 660. When you look at it look at the castings. 660 engine castings, blocks air cleaners, manifolds, etc are different than Super 66 models. Block casting may or may not match your 550 depending on the age of your 550. Remember the first 550 tractors have the 144 cubic inch engine. Questions?

yes i have the oliver data book and it listed that the early 550 had the 144..i looked for the serial tag on mine and it is missing...according to the data book the 550 tested at nebraska had the 155 in it and the engine number was 1082115...i looked on the side of my block and found diff numbers..does this mean that i have the 144?...it looked like the number with the same amount of digits was under the throttle bracket bolted to the side of the block so couldnt get exact number but it wasnt the same as listed for the 155...i was also meaning to ask about a base weight i bought a while back..was hoping to use it on the 550 but the bolt pattern is diff..must be for a cast grill type oliver perhaps..the number on it is 159240a...thanks for your help and patience
