I hope to hook on our 292 NI mow/ditioner on Wed. and start cutting our rye. Was hoping to put it off til the weekend but it's ready NOW and it's already getting a little late. They had nothing else we could plant last fall for some early spring forage. I'll take some pictures of our 1855 on the Fox 3000, and maybe some of our massey 285 on the NI. Unfortunately I don't have the 1600 going yet to atleast use on the wagon.

HEY DON
HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU ON THE 1600. WHEN YOU BROUGHT UP FOX CHOPPER, THAT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF OUR 1800 WITH A FOX AND A BOWE MFG CHOPPER RACK. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THAT TYPE OF WAGON. BOWE WAGONS WHERE BUILT IN RURAL HILBERT WIS. MAYBE AFTER I GET MY 1800 ALL FINISHED, I MIGHT HUNT FOR A VINTAGE FOX CHOPPER TO FIX UP. I WAS UP AT TESCH BROS IMPLEMENT LAST FRI, WAS THINKING OF BUYING A NEW GOVENOR THRUST BEARING FOR THE 1800. $110.00 BUCKS, THE OLD ONE WILL STILL WORK FINE. I AM GOING TO USE A NEW STYLE FRONT COVER ON THE ENGINE, HAD TO PICK UP THE CORRECT FRONT SEAL.

The 1600 hasn't had any work in the last week or so, been real busy doing feildwork etc. the last week or so. If you would settle for a 1-row fox we have an older one we've used just as a brush chipper the last 2 years. It's got the 1-row corn and a hay head. We got the 3000 for free and that 2-row makes all the difference. Put all new teeth on the 3000's pick-up head last year.
I've heard mention of bowe, but that's about it. We used to have a Rex w/ wood sides, now we have an older Meyers w/ wood sides and steel uprights and our gehl 970. Just sold an older H&S to a horse lady about 2 miles past Tesch, they just want the box for a shelter till they can put up the shed.

I MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN THE FOX CHOPPER,WHAT IS THE MECHANICAL CONDITION . WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. THE BIG TRACTOR WE HAD WAS A 1800,WE ALSO HAD A OLIVER 88 AND A CASE 300 THE 1800 WAS TRADED IN ON A JD 4430, THE CASE WAS TRADED FOE A JD 1520 THE 88 WAS CLOSE TO MY DAD AND UNCLE'S HEART, THEY BOUGHT A LEYLAND TO TAKE THE BURDON OFF THE 88 , THE LEYLAND GOT TRADED FOR A JD 2640, AND THE OLD 88 WAS STILL GOING, THE 88 NOW SETS COMPLETLY RESTORED IN MY UNCLES SHED, ONLY TAKEN OUT FOR A SPIN AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD OR TO THE STEAM AND TRACTOR SHOW IN CHILTON WIS

It's rough, but it works ok. We replaced the band/neck for the spout about 10 years ago, and also the shear bar some where in there. We have a few extra knives & bolts, almost a full set of screens, and a few other extra parts & peices. also have a manual for the base unit as well as both heads. Biggest problem we had w/ it was too big of a tractor and kept plugging the head because the chopper couldn't keep up.

Works good as a chipper but the knives are probably dinged up some. We have a sharpener for it minus the stone. The 1800 would probably be a good size for it, My dad used it on our 285 massey for years.

I'm sure if we greased it up and put on the head, we could chop with it, although it may not be as fine as we want.

There's a lot of alfalfa down in our part of Kansas right now. You gotta love the smell of freshly cut alfalfa waiting to dry down.

That's just what I was thinking today as I was making first cut on alfalfa. That is the sweetest smell ever. Helps make up for the rain problems, and equipment breakdowns...sure smelled good while I was taking the flat tire off my conditioner today.. Larry NE IL

Forgot to mention that I was cutting with a 1967 770 and a Heston PT-10. If all goes well, this 770 will ted and rake, the '58 770 will pull the 620 baler.
