My wifes grandpa has a 770 oliver we were using it to pull up fence and it started up every time we shut it down . we put it in the shed and were gonna use it again later and it wouldn"t start. He thought it might be the ignition switch so we replaced it and still it wouldn"t start we have tried different batteries and still it won"t start. we can only roll start it. any suggestions to fix this tractor let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

could be several things..... .. there is a switch for the clutch pedal to hit when pushed down the wires could be off, or the switch bad. the start solinoid on the starter might be bad, or the wire leading to the start soliniod.

Are you confusing starting with cranking? Of course it's not going to start by the key if it doesn't crank. If you are confused by this simple difference how are we going to be able to tell you how to fix it? ???? I know, "take it to a mechanic".??? :>)

After reading your original post again , I see you did mention roll starting the tractor. Why didn't I see that the first time. From what I see , I'm not the only one who missed that line. Now we all sound sarcastic. Sorry Kelly.

Hi Kelly , Loren's reply did sound a little sarcastic , but I don't think he ment it that way. I have to agree with his thinking. When reading your post , I too thought the tractor wouldn't start. A few post later , I see it does start when rolling the tractor. The starter won't crank it over.

If it were older and had a magneto I would say the coil is shot, since it is not that old that I would still start there if you have another one laying around.Next I would check the points & codenser.Other than having it in front of me to diagnose that is about all I can tell you. Good luck,if I can be of any help email me.

I am confussed. You first say it won't start and then you say it will roll start. Can you clarify?

sorry, it will roll start only the 770 is the only tractor with a bucket on he doesn"t always have someone there to help him with this so he can"t use the tractor all the time . we are trying to figure out why until a couple of weeks ago this tractor always started by pushing the ignition button now it won"t

When you ask questions you need to state your questions better. Does it turn the engine over when you hit the switch and just doesn't start?? Does it do nothing when you hit the switch??
Is there a clicking sound when you hit the switch??
The more info we have the more we can tell you, from what you have siad it could be any of a number of things includeing a weak battery, bad starter, bad switch, even a bad cable from the battery.
