well i got the 550 home and discovered i cant find a serial tag on it...where could it be? looked all over the frame and cowel...also i didnt have the opportunity to drive it at the auction but when i got it home it makes a grating sound in both reverses but not in the forward gears..is there one shaft that runs with both reverse gears only on it..possibly a bearing on that shaft or?..thanks for your help

Good luck with your rig. My rig did not have a plate that I could find. Mr. B.A. Starr (I believe) informed me that after xxx s/n the location was moved. I have found mine stamped into the generator boss on the motor. Stamped vertically. Been using that # since I found it and parts seem be fitting. Check it out if no other luck.

It's on a plate right about where your left ankle is when you're sitting on the tractor. At least that's where it is on mine.
