I'm trying to reduce the backlash in the steering of my cockshutt 40. I've already tried adjusting the cam to reduce clearance between the sector and worm gear. It ends up way to loose or so tight you can't turn the wheel. Any ideas? Thanks

I would check the end play on the steering shaft. It is adjusted with shims. If you move the cam adjustment much some times the shaft is not centered and can bind. If you move the cam much you may have to adjust both. Hope this helps. I had to do that on my 40. If it is a standard wide front it will steer like a man's tractor on a good day.
