77 RC Shifter Stuck HELP!!!

Hello Guys,

I have had this 49 RC 77 for about a year now and it has been relatively trouble free. Just this past weekend, I had just turned over 5 or so acres with a 2 bottom using this tractor. I then loaded the tractor on the trailer to take it home. Upon chaining it down, I went to put it in reverse to tighten up the chain on the front, and I couldn't get it in reverse!

It now seems to be stuck between 3rd and 6th gears. I pulled the shifter out and upon inspection nothing seems to be broken or bent in there. Any hints on how to get the shafts back in the correct position? There is a swinging gate in there as well, that seems to be stuck over in the left position. I sure don't want to force anything.

What is the best way to fix this? Do I have to pull the top of the trans off? It has the mechanical lift on it. Will I have to pull the hood and the dash to pull the lift off?

HELP!!!

Thanks,

JSF Minneapolis

Pull the shift lever out, take a large screwdriver and line up the 3 rods. The center rod is hi-lo, the left and right are supposed to line up with the center. When locked up the tractor will have to be rocked. This generally are the result of not having the lever in position when shifting. Replacing the lever is just a matter of dropping it in, dont loose the springs that on either side.

check to make sure you got enough oil in trans. had one lock up on me once got over heated and would lock up. should not have to pull dash to get mech. lift off i would pull lift and see if everything moves freely hope you remember how to but shifter back in. once you get it unstuck but tractor in neutral then put everything back together have somone shin light in hole and line up shifter with biggest hole between shifter rods. good luck

I removed all of the bolts that I could see for the lift system, but it still didn't seem to wnat to lift off. Are there some hidden bolts?

Just a little more help here guys. This thing seems to be stuck pretty good and fixing it through the shifter opening seems like trying to change spark plugs through the tail pipe of a car. What I mean is that I don't think I can fix it through the shifter hole, as the swinging gate in there is jammed as well.

What I would like to know, is does the dash, hood and fuel tank need to come off to remove the lift assembly on the top of the tranny???? How about the top plate on the rear part of the tranny??? I just got to get this thing fixed.

Thanks in advance for any insight from anyone who has ever had one of these apart.
