The proper way to remove the starter is to first remove the right exhaust manifold.exhaust down pipe and the alternator . Then tie a rope through starter solenoid and slide the starter forward through engine tub and out beside radiator.I would highly recommend against lifting the front of this engine up more than about 2 inches. The reason is that the over/under hydraul shift actually slips inside the input shaft of the transmission and is sealed with an o-ring. If you lift to much they have been known to break the end of the input shaft.

i had a 1974 2255 with a 3150 and it would, tight fit
