Oil filter: Noticed in a parts manual that a coil spring goes inside the housing. I don't have one installed! Initially I was thinking that the spring went BELOW the filter, but after looking at the filter and noticing that the oil travels through the center pipe, I'm thinking that the spring goes on TOP of the filter (btwn the filter and lid) to hold the filter down. Am I correct?

Maxturbo,

The spring in the oil filter canister on the Cockshutt 30 goes UNDER the filter.

On the Model E4/40 tractor, the spring goes ABOVE the filter on tractors up to serial # 4035. All above is serial number and all E5/50 tractors, have no spring in the oil filter canister.

Please let me know when I can assist you further.

Thanks Phil! I know that my buddy Don F. asked you last week about the availability of the spring, but not it's location.

He received the last order of parts from you and is currently out in my shop prepping some for me to paint. I'm his "wrench" and he's the owner and prep guy. Together we are re-assembling the tractor.

Thanks again, Don S.
