My brother has an Oliver 1955, and the opportunity to buy a "parts" Oliver 1855 with a bad engine (spun a rod bearing, I think). Is there enough commonality between the two Olivers to make the 1855 worth $500?

Thanks,

Pat Cox

There is difference from the 1855 rearend to the 1955 rear end. Bull gears will not fit. Bull pinions will not interchange and a few other parts. That 1855 is still worth $500 just for the 3 speed and hydrolic related idems. Hard to go wrong at that price. good luck

$500 is an excellent deal, no matter how bad it is. The 18 and 1955 are very similar, I don't think there are many differences in the rear end, and they use the same clutch, flywheel, etc... Normally Olivers w/ blown engines go for about $1500 in our area. Donovan from Wisconsin
