I have a 1955 Oliver Super 55 Diesel without power steering. Looking at my fleet and parts manuals, it appears that Oliver offered a power steering unit which was integrated into the steering column. However, I think I've seen photos of Super 55s with external power steering cylinders bearing either on the tie rods or the steering knuckles themselves (one on each side). The later would seem to bypass the historically weak part of the 55's steering mechanism but was it an offering from Oliver or a 3rd party add on? Thanks much...

Both types were factory units. It's a little confusing- my 550 parts book seems to indicate that the integrated unit was used earlier, and the external cylinder type was later in the model run. But I found an external cylinder unit on a Super 55 in a boneyard. It works very well, but they're scarce as hens teeth. The external cylinder variety uses different steering knuckles, with the cylinder attached about midway down the arm. Rear of the cylinder is bolted to the radius rod on each side.
