I was cleaning my 1955 up yesterday and noticed the coolers on the front of the radiator were cloged up. A closer look revealed one of the lines that comes in on top of the cooler was leaking. So I decided to remove the cooler lines and replace them, and also clean out the cooler fins. Got that apart and having taken the hood off I noticed a bunch of JB weld on the piece of metal between the exhaust manifold and the Exhaust side of the turbo. Took a chisel and taped the JB and it flaked off and revealed a large crack. The exhaust port on the turbo is also cracked. So it looks like I need a new turbo, or at least a new exhaust housing and have the rest rebuilt. It is an "Air Research" turbo, and I believe it has "4D" stamped on it, maybe a model#? Anyhow, who can get these parts and or rebuild them? I am going to have to take the manifold into the machine shop to get the turbo off of it because in trying to do so last night I broke off a bolt. Ok, next thing, Now that I got all of that stuff off the Injection pump and injectors are right out in the open. The tractor does smoke at idle like it is slobering fuel, so it probably wouldn't hurt to have the pump overhauled and put in new injectors to. Can I take this pump to a reputable pump shop we deal with for our cummins pumps? Or should I have somone else do it? Recomend anyone? Also, where should I get injectors? Agco will be high? Let me know what you guys think of my dilema.

The turbo is a t04. Same turbo that is on the 1066. you should be able to find a rebuilt for around 400.00 bucks. Good luck!!

Luke,

The price on thefuel sys rebuild does not sound
out of line at all.

If you don't find the coupling tube to the
turbo or don't find someone in your area that will fix it without arc welding it , send me a note. I repair cast with oxy/acet cast iror weld,
works many times better than arc weld .

OK, I talked to archway diesel in St.Louis an they said they could rebuild the pump for about $500, new injectors for about $55-65 a piece, and the turbo overhaul could cost $300-500 or if they have one a new one for about $300-400. How does all this sound to you guys?

Talked to a friend who pull's IH's and he said I should just put injectors in it first and see if that helps, if not then rebuild the pump, but don't spend the money unless you have to. He referred me to St.Joseph Diesel in St.Joe, Missouri. Talked to the owner Steve, and he said send him the turbo and he'll try and put an exhaust housing on it and overhaul it and he'll look at my injectors and try to rebuild them. His pricing sounded resonable and he really knew what he was talking about. He was also a hell of a friendly guy, talked to me on the phone ffor 30 minutes about it. It is hard to find sombody that willing to help these days. If anybody else needs anything contact him at 816-233-3736. He'll darn sure get ya fixed up.
