Went thru all the fluids and made sure that they were adequate. Differential/tranny full plug was a bit tricky. You fill at the front of the tranny and the full plug is adjacent to the PTO shaft. Hmmm.

Accidentally got it running. Kept looking at the shaft thing with a knob on the end adjacent to the steering wheel on the starter. From it's position it was right where the starter solenoid engegement lever is located. Hmmmmm.

The key start spun the starter allright, but the starter just spun; no engagement. Finally I tried a combination of things and when I pushed on the knob and turned the key to the start position, she whirred for a couple of seconds and kicked to life. Was impressed as this tractor has been sitting since before October when my friend bought the property with it as part of the deal.

Anyhew, we ran it for awhile and drove it around the lot and the engine must have been redone recently as once the initial crud blew out, it ran clean and smooth. RPM, hour meter, oil press and ammeter all worked. Oil pressure was good, high, and steady.

Now the question: On the dash is a double H shift diagram showing 6 forward speeds and 2 reverse. How do you get from one to the other? Do you push down on the shifter to change ranges? If so, which one is down? Couldn't find any range lever or anything else to move.

Help appreciated.

Mark

Put the shift lever in the center and pull or push, the center shifts only the hi-lo function and at the end of travel there is seperate H shift pattern at each end.

Thanks for your reply.

Since the handle is doglegged to get it away from the seat, pulling seems awkward, whereas pushing seems prudent.

So, if I read you right, to do the other shift pattern, you push down, and while holding down, move to desired gear. Then if you want to return to the previous gear, move the selector to N whereupon it pops up, then move over to desired gear????? ?? Make sense?

The tractor isn't here so I will have to go to the guys house to try it.

Thanks again for your help.

Mark

Like it has been said, it should be able to move from upper and lower gears with the pinky finger, you just have to find the sweet spot. Hold the clutch in and try to move it fore and aft while in what you feel is the center area of the left and right pattern. Once you find it twice, it will be a cinch to do rapidly from then on.

Think that there is a gateway between the two patterns. the gateway runs forward and back, not up and down. when it is working properly just a bump of the palm of your hand forward or back will make the shifter pass though the gate.

There are two H patterns and each one has it's own neutral and these neutrals are connected by the fore and aft center gate as the others have explained. No push up or down.
