I have a chance to buy an Oliver Super 55 w/ a loader for $2,000. Tractor has good paint, good tires, good brakes, mechanically seems good, it's got a 4cyl gas motor. The loader is a Lord & it's got a 5' bucket w/ down-pressure. Does this seem like a "fair" price? I have never owned an Oliver (We generally run Allis-Chalmers, Ford's & Farmall's), are these tractors durable? Any idea on HP rating? Is this comparable to a Massey-Ferguson 35 or is closer to a Massey 65? Anything I should look for before handing over my money & taking it home? Any major (common) problems w/ these units? Thanks.

I have an Oliver Super 55 gas and it's been a good little utility tractor for me. Mine doesn't have a loader, but if it runs well and the hydrolics work, I'd say $2,000.00 is a steal.... The hp is 45.

I don't have my "book" with me, but I think the horsepower is closer to 35 (my diesel 550 is 39, and 550's were a step up from S55's). It's still a great buy, but you're not going to be happy without power steering- reefing on the wheel just takes all the fun out of it.
