Guys, I need your help on big round balers. Since they dont make Oliver or White round balers, I have to lower myself to buy another color. I am looking at a JD 566 and a Vermeer 605XL. Can anybody tell me the pros and cons of the two and which is a better baler. A 1998 model JD cost the same as a 2002 Vermeer. This is my first baler to own and not sure which way to buy. Thanks for all in advance.

I have a 530 Deere thats done a super job for me. Have baled with it since 1997 and have had very little trouble out of it. Go Green! I'm looking into the idea of adding a second baler this year with net wrap so I can possibly get some of those jobs I'm missing because of not having net.

I tend to look at where I can get parts from before buying equipment. The closet dealer to me sells Hesston which works well for me. (I think Hesston may have bought the Oliver hay line anyways). I have found that I can also buy bearings and parts for my baler from a variety of independant suppliers which can make a huge difference on price of repairs. Besides the hesston red is a good match for my faded red Cockshutts.

Vermeer invented in the big round baler about 1971 in Pella, Iowa based on the old Allis-Chalmers roto baler. Vermeer is still the best baler on the market for the money. The 605XL will make a really tight nice bale close to 1800 pounds or better depending on the crop. John Deere balers are good too, its just that you will pay more for the green paint. I would buy the 2002 model Vermeer over a 1998 model John Deere if I were choosing.

buy the deere even if its more money>the resale will be more for the deere IF you decide to sell it. but i don't think you will want to get rid of it.there is no comparison. the green one is a cadillac compared to a vermeer.matter of fact the new vermeer if you look close are identical to the 566 and 567 modesls. hope that helpsvern
