Hey Guys, Was wandering about the 880"s found one for sale at a dealership with widefront but isn"t very fancy looking. Tin is bent up and front end has some welds. Its a diesel and I was wandering if these were prone to any problems or what are some of the benefits of one? It has a f11 farmhand loader in nice shape also. Asking price is 2,500. Sounds fair to me but wanted to check with you guys first. Thanks

We've got a '58 model, bought it for 1000, it had a spun rod bearing. It was a little rough but straight. We probably spent 4000 restoring it (trust me, it adds up quick!), but now that it's up and running, I wouldn't trade for a newer tractor of that size. Check the power steering unit for leaks, as I had to rebuild mine. Also make sure the hydraulic level is up, mine lost fluid one day and we had to rebuild the pump. Not too costly, just time consuming. They're easy to work on and relatively simple to figure out. And you can always post on here to get help, everybody's always willing to help. 2500 sounds fair with the loader if it starts good and runs o.k. Check to see if it has a Bosch injector pump. We changed ours to a Roosamaster because the old pump was played out. I think rebuilding costs on the Bosch pump may be higher than the Roosamaster. Good luck!!

I planted and cultivated with a diesel 880 in the 70's. It also was a '58 that I put a char-lyn power steering kit on. Only had two complaints;
1) it was a wide front and didn't turn worth a darn. Always threatened to put a narrow front on it, but never did.
2) it was a 57 degree tractor...56.5 degrees and if I didn't use ether, it wouldn't start, 57 and it would fire on the first turn.
Had plenty of power. I planted with a JD 6 row with dry fert. Pulled it easy. Larry NE IL
