Well, I hooked up a 15' Rhino cutter to my new 1955 this weekend. Cut about 20 acres until I had a cutter malfunction. It did great. Pulled that 15' cutter like it wasn't there. I gotta couple hydraulic leaks around the remote hoses where they come out of the tractor but nothing major. I gotta figure out how to adjust the pto to get it to stop when I shut it off. And I gotta little noise coming from the bellhousing area at lower rpm's, kind of a growling? Doesn't sound to bad. Once I get this thing tweeked just right it'll be awesome. I gotta get some pics but I lost my digital camera. I'll get another one and post some pics.

About the growling, please check to be sure your sprockets are in line with each other, if you reach down and run you fingers across them with the chain on, you can tell if one is higher or lower. There is a set nut under the over-under housing that runs up through the main tub. Now I know I'll probably be corrected on this, because it's not meant to push the housing up your supposed to shim your motor up, but you can push up a little to help align you sprockets to some extent. If it is out of align from side to side then loosen your motor mount bolts and slide the motor to align them better, it will make a big difference! As far as the rough idle, we rebuilt the injector pump and injectors, it ran sooo sweet!! I do miss that machine since I put so many hours of work in it's "restoration". I know where it's at and it has a good home from what I can see. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask more questions!!

On the clutch noise. Does it make a different what range your over/under is in? How much free travel does your clutch have? Your starter kicks out doesn't it?

It doesn't seem to change with the O/U. The clutch on this thing feels like a new one, it engauge's very low, and it's firm. I cut 30 acre's last night and didn't seem to notice it. Maybe my mind was on the approaching rain though? I'll tell ya what, I've never run this big a tractor and cutter, but when you need to cover some ground in a hurry, a 1955 and a 15' Rhino cutter can get it done! I love this thing! However, I was wondering, after runing er hard for 3-4 hours of cutting when I'd stop and idle she would idle a little rough, not real bad, but not as good as it ought to. run er up to about 900-1000rpm's and it's fine, but at 750-800 she's a little rough? Probably nothing?

Note post above regarding 1650 and rough idling. The 283 and 310 in your 1955 are first cousins, sisters even. I've yet to find one that will idle like an IH diesel at idle, but they sure sound good when they're working, don't they?

Yep, pulling 15' of cutter through heavy pasture she sure sounds sweet, especially with my 4' long 4" diameter straight stack!

I'm no expert, but I just got a 1655. Mine has a growl too, and I think that it is the chain coupler between the transmission and over/under.
