I believe I have burnt the PTO clutch in my Oliver Super 55 (4 cyl gas) tractor. I was using a sickle-bar mower in one of my ditches cutting cattails when the mower blade stopped moving. After removing the mower, I noticed that the PTO still turned when the tracor was running, but when put under a load, it doesn't turn. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to replace the PTO clutch. I understand that the tractor must be split to accomplish this, but since I've never done this type of work on a tractor before, I'm looking for potential pitfalls from someone who may have done this before. I have a pretty good repair manual and have replaced clutchs in trucks before. Are there other things that I should do since the tractor is split? Other seals gaskets that make sence to replace since the tractor is alreasdy split? I'm trying to save $ by doing it myself and want to get the most bang for my buck.

Have you taken the inspection plate off and looked in there? Have you tried to adjust the PTO clutch? How much effort does it take to snapp the handle overcenter?

I have not taken off the inspection plate or tried to adjust the PTO clutch. It takes little to no effort to snap the handle over-center, and that is why I believe that I burth the clutch out and will need to replace it. This weekend I was planning to tear into it by draining the fluids, splitting the tractor, and taking a look at what's inside. I have a repair manual, but not having done this before to a tractor, I'm a little intimidated.

Be a lot simpler to try to adjust it up before gutting the whole thing. It could be toast, but it could also be out of adjustment.

Tractor should be Super 55 not Super 44
