Got hold of a 1958 550 gasser last fall strong runnig little brute how ever it had a soft clutch and a slight knock at low rpm. Figured the thurst on the mains were shot. Split her yesterday. Crank looks fine bearings were worn. center main had lost rear thrust , clutch was heading south fast. I can locate all the parts except the rear main seal close to home (southern ohio). what"s the story on those seals sorta an odd set up looks like it had a felt washer on it at one time am I missing something ? Thanks in advance old dude.

Doing research on 1958 550's. does yours have regular rear rims(non power adjust) amd are they red or white. Mine is original and they are red. It is an early 550 serial 64069 and I am trying to find out at what serial Oliver started painting the rear rims white. Thanks.

Jerry, I have a '58 with the serial 61-142. My rims are white but I haven't looked at them closely to see if they have red underneath. I'll take a look this weekend. They are the larger size option though.
