77 and 60 rear end oil levels

It appears the 77 has a filler plug about 6 inches in front of the gearshift. How do you know how full the oil is and how full is it supposed to be? Does it take just 90 gear oil?

Likewise with the 60. How do you check the rear end level and how full is it supposed to be?

Thank you

The 77 takes 4-1/2 gallons of gear oil. 140 weight. 90 weight in the winter if you live in the cold country. Like the other Dennis said, there is a check plug on the right side behind the axle. There are two drain plugs on the belly. Take both out to drain.

On the 77, there is a high fill mark on the right side of the transaxle. You take it out and fill until the oil gets to that level.

Is the filler plug the one I mentioned? I.e. about 6 inches in front of the gear shift socket. Thanks for the help so far.

Yes the filler plug is about 6" in front of gearshift. Not a very convenient location if you have a belt pulley. A real long funnel tube where you could stand on tractor and pour would be good. Or if you have a pump that would work best.
