Folks:

I am an IH guy, but need some advice on a tractor that is going to sell at one of my neighbors auctions in a couple of weeks.

He is selling an Oliver 1800 C Diesel wide front, new rubber, and a Year Around Cab. I have no knowledge of Olivers and would like some comments, thoughts, and advice for those that do. I would use it to pull a NH 495 Haybine, hay baler, and possible put a loader on it.

Jim

Hi Jim. That tractor should do all you want it to. Were is the sale at? I live in Bremer Co. Not going to show up and run the price up on you, just want to know. around here if an Oliver goes on the block it either goes really cheap or way to high. It seems there is no inbetween. Good luck, if you get it you will be happy.

The sale is NW of Des Moines and is only 4.5 miles from our house.

Hey Jim, U are lookin at an excellent tractor. I have one, 1963 , Diesel, wheatland, some will grumble about the 310's reliability, but I can tell U mine has a 8,100 Hrs, and the engine has never been apart. The motor is now getting tired, but the rest of the tractor is solid. All around excellent tractors, nice driving, fuel efficent, adequate power, and fairly easy to afford. I would recommend one in a heartbeat. my 2 cents--Wide Open

I dont know a lot about the 1800's but since no one else has offered much, i will tell you what i know. They are about 74 hp, and by the C's were supposed to be a decent tractor. I would bet that it will probably not bring a ton at auction, and I wouldnt be afraid of it. I have IH and Oliver, and I think you will like the Oliver.

And people wonder why Internet Bulletin Boards get a bad name!!!

Thanks so much for the information regarding the Oliver 1800. Now I can make an informed purchasing decision based upon the comments gleaned from this thread. I am so happy that I posted the question.

Hey Jim, relax, it's all in fun.

We had an 1800A gas checkerboard when I was a kid. It is still in use today by a neighbor, who bought it when we bought the 1955. Not sure how many hours it has on it now, but it must be well over 4000. When we had it, it chopped, baled, mowed, packed silo, did whatever. No complaints, other than it did get thirsty, what with being gas.

Jake

Iowa Jim, you should be real happy with the tractor. My father has the c model diesel and uses it year round living in central ND. We pull five bottoms when plowing corn ground in the spring and pull large logs with the three point when doing lumber in the winter. Starts good, has good power and is economical. It will handle all your looking at. If it has new rubber your ahead of the game. Parts can be had at the local agco dealer.
