I recently bought an oliver 4240 3 bottom 14" plow for my new to me 1655. What size tires are supposed to be on the 4240? It is the style with the big wheel in the back. One tire is 6.70x15, the others are car tires, and all need replaced. Will the 4240 be a decent match for a 1655? I bought it sight unseen and was hoping it was a 4340, but it didnt work out that way. Thanks for the help.
Josh

You will have plenty of power to pull that plow. Your biggest problem will be to get your wheels in far enough to get the draft right. If you have 15.5 's or 16.9's you will be O.K. 18.4's will work, but you will have a lot of tire in a 14 inch furrow.

As for plow tires, most dealers put car tires on the plows. The 5 up to 10 bottom plows usually used 6 or 8 ply implement tires because of the weight of the plows. Car tires will work fine on your plow.

4-16 semimounted is a good match unless you are in that heavy clay ground that some guys talk about. then 3-16 semimounted would be fine.

I saw a guy at plowdays with a 1600 and 3-16 semimount plow. The plow originally had been a four bottom. The front bottom was removed and the hitch reset to allow the plow to properly track. Appeared to do ok with it, didn't look bad either.
I have seen 3 bottom semimounts at TriGreen's auction in London Ohio. Stickers on them indicated they were originally from Wis and Min.

The 565 was available as a 3 bottom. 4-14's in a 565 would be a good match as it would work well with your draft control
