I took the rear plate off of the 1650 to adjust the pto engaging lever. I have moved the afdjusting plate several notches in both direction and no change. I'm assuming the pto will turn by hand if it gets disengaged but I can never get it to turn, How many notches should I try? The inside may be slightly warped as J. told me earlier. What else can I do to get it to working properly? thanks for your replys.

If the operator of the tractor has started a excessively heavy load or perhaps attempted to "unslug" a machine the clutch plates and seperator discs could have become warped. Clutch discs and seperators must be flat and have .120" to .135" clearance between any clutch plate and seperator when disengaged. If you do not have proper clearance when disengaged, post again and we will help you get proper amount. Lubrication oil should not be the problem. Oil comes in through the collector ring and enters between the clutch shaft and long PTO drive shaft. When disengaged, there are four 3/16" bleed holes in the clutch shaft that are uncovered by the engagement sleeve to remove oil before it gets to the clutch. As engagement sleeve moves toward the engagement position, the bleed holes are covered to force oil to the clutch for lube and cooling. Very early tractors did not have the bleed holes, there was a Modification program to correct the lack of bleed holes. We are talking about tractors prior to April of 1966.

I'm not exactly sure which parts you are referring to but there appears to be plates that are not evenly lined up. I'm guessing this is the problem. Can they be lined up or will the assemble have to be replaced. I'm new to this tractor so you may have to be very specific on explantations. thanks

Haveing the pto contine turning is a common problem. The clutch ajuster is for makeing the clutch hold and snap overcenter correctly.Your problem could be warped and worn plates. There are other causes too like too much oil pumped to the clutch,or bad bearings.
