Does any one know what type metal is used for the front spindles) 1.5 diameter. I have tried cold roll and they seem to bend to easy. I have also tried D2 tool steel and It breaks to easy???

They are probably forged then turned like a crank and then surface hardened to withstand the abuse of the bearing or bushing . Cut an old one in two and look at it with a magnifier glass . If it looks grainy you got your answer . Good luck in your search for a cold rolled or hot rolled steel that will take it . Try a lesser stainless . I don't know the number but there's a stainless that will surface rust quickly but is stonger than cold rolled but not real brittle , sorry I can't help more , try a steel supply house or your local metal scrap yard , they know their steels . .....Randy
