Ok, so I bought this 560 Cockshutt diesel. Not a bad looking tractor, and it had a Farmhand F-11 loader on it, which as a complete unit is what I was I looking for. Anyway, tonight I was trying to push a little dirt, and the motor all of a sudden change sounds. Not much mind you, but just a bit, then it started missing, and the temp guage went to 210. Oh, and it started smoking like the "Old Supers" did, when you were pulling the guts out of them. Now I need to figure out what happened. It almost acts like the pump somehow jumped timing, but unless Perkins is totally differant the the old Hercs, I don't think that is possible.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Nick

If this is an early one, could it have the vaccum
governor? Symtoms sound like a hole in the vaccum diaphram on the back of the injection pump. J. Sweibert has more knowledge on this by far.

Not real sure what year this thing is. Only number I can find on the "tub" is CP 718? I have all kinds of bubbles in the radiator, so I am guessing that the head gasket is blown.

Have you checked for coolant in the pan? The vacuum gover theory is out unless someone changed the engine. Your tractor is a 1961 model. Before you tear into the thing, might I suggest that you pump up the cooling system with a tester to about 5-7 psi and see if it will hold pressure. Also since you have the direct injection engine there is a good chance if the valve stuck the piston would have hit it and driven it shut. Pull the fuel shut off and turn it over, 2 full turns by hand in case you have liquid (coolant) on top of a piston. If it turns over O. K. Turn it over with the starter and see if it cranks over evenly. Get back with us as some of us are trying to learn. Questions?

I started it this morning, before I read all of your posts. When it is turning over, sounds like my old Case did when it had sticky valves. Once it's running, sounds like it is only hitting on 2 holes. Has about that much power too...would only move in 2nd gear. Had to try to get it out of the mud, which is impossible, but atleast its closer to dry ground, or where the water will get away, when it quits raining.I'll pull the drain plug later and let you all know what I find. Thanks

Can you email me your phone numbers again? Guess maybe I should ask if you have a head gasket, and torque specs first. I will pressure check the radiator, but I am almost convinced that it is a head gasket. The oil looked "milky" when I bought it, but the level hasn't come up. So hopefully it's ok.
Thanks
Nick

Most likly you had a valve stick open.Remove the valve cover and check.Allso check for compression bubbles in the radiator.
