I was wondering if someone could please give me some info on an Oliver 520 baler, such as what years they were made, how much they are worth, and how well they work. Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks,
Joe

Although I am an Oliver guy I will say that if you are planning on baling alot of hay look for a decent JD 336 or a New Holland. If your looking for a small amount then the Oliver should be ok but like Frank said I wouldn't invest alot into it. The one thing we have noticed is that for the most part all knotter systems were built by about 2-3 companies and used on most any brand baler.

I traded a Oliver 60 baler to a man who used it for several years. He had to buy knotter parts for it but I can't remember which brand he used but they fit. It was like of of a Hesston or New holland or something like that..

This was one of the last balers produced. I think the baler began production around 1966 and continued until the early 70's. If I remember correctly there were some tieing problems. I wouldn't give very much for it.

Hey Frank! WE still haven't gotten this old 550 diesel running yet but we are getting close. I will run for almost a second and then die so we're figuring the shutoff valve or something is bad in the pump. Gonna try to pull it in the shop sometime this week and see if that is it. I sure hope so cause a pump rebuild is not fun on the billfold:)

Also, I finally got a 1800 diesel!!!! It has a few minor problems but runs great and the sheetmetal is good. Going to use it this year for a third tractor while we are baling hay. As I posted on up I am having shift problems bu I did it after I bought the tractor so I can' gripe too much. Hehe as a testament to these old tractors this one started the other day when the temps were down around 36-38 with no manifold heater, block heater, or ether!!! Gotta love the REAL GREEN!!!

What steps for pump troubleshooting have you done on the 550? Is it a Bosch Or Roosa system?

it is a bosch pump and not really alot yet. We have fuel to the pump but have not gotten into it yet. We are going to try to get it in the shop as soon as the 1800 is out and go from there. My dad thinks it is in the shu of valve because if you le it set for a little while and try to start it it will ac like i is going to start bu sounds like i runs out of fuel or something. He tried bleeding to the injectors and has not gotten it that far yet. Someone said something about the plunger being stuck but we haven't checked that yet either.

any suggestions are appreciated:)
