Will a 77 flat (no hyd) transmission top fit an 880?

I think the differance in the two covers is the cap and opening where you add transmision fluid. The early one will have a larger hole & cap. The later one will have a cap with two ears. They will inter-change with 77's to the 880's.

It should. Both are part # K-681. The early 77's carried part # K-681-A. The later 77's carried part # K-681-B. By the time they were building the 880 the part # was K-681-B
When Oliver changed the suffix (A)to(B), that indicated that something was different. If your 77 is serial # 3508732 or later, then it should have K-681-B. If it is serial # 3508731 or earlier, then it would have part # K-681-A. I have seen both covers side by side, and I did not see any difference, but if you believe the suffix story, there might be a difference. I am sure I have thoroughly confused you. If you have questions, call me at (316)722-4270 or e-mail. Will try to help you.

By the parts book, there was two different covers used on the 77 tractors. Early had K-681-A through serial number 3508731, which would be a 1953 model. Later tractors (S/N 3508732 - ) had K-681-B and that one was used on the 880 tractor. I do not know what the difference is. I have two of them and they are both the early ones. The part number is cast on the inside of the cover.

So let me ask you this, my gear shift pattern I think is supposed to be for a 770, but the tractor is an 880. Or is there a difference in transmissions? Not that it matters, just curious. Thanks.

The top covers, hydraulic units, and cultivator lifts will interchange on the 77, 88, 770, and 880 tractors. The spur gear transmissions are the same design, 88 and 880 are just bigger. The helical gear 880s may have had a different shift pattern. We had one but I don"t remember for sure.
