Could sombody tell me if this is a true statement: This is a dry sleeve block and you can remove the sleeves and go to 4" bore. Also, did the gas and Diesel versions use the same camshaft?

Thanks!

If you need 298 parts I might be able to assist.
Just took out an original and replaced with a 1983 white 298.

Boy the first statement may be true may not be. You did not say what the application was. Hercules was an engine builder. They built the engine the way you wanted it. I need more details before I can give you some decent answers as to what the application is. I also need to know if this is a military 298. They are different on the inside. Questions?

It is a Military 298 right down to its OD paint and brass tag. However, it was used as a replacement in a Cockshutt 570. It is an older one that uses the Bosch pump on it but has the water connections on both ends of the head. I don't have the numbers of the block here handy but can get them real easy if it will help.

Thanks for the help

Tell you a couple of things real quick. The military engines use a larger size wrist pin, may have military standard rod and main bearings and may run a different cam. Questions
