Robert, the 1600 Diesel is, in my mind, one of the best tractors ever built. The gas however was a different story. We have had a Diesel since new. 1963 model, 14,987.9 Hrs ( I walked out to check) was main tractor on our 280 acre farm for many years, overhauled once in 1978, at 8,550 Hrs. Otherwise has only required 2 clutches, and a rebuild of the Hydra Power. Still is the best starting diesel we have. 0 degrees and it will fire right up w/ out being plugged in. Uses very little fuel, and has excellent power for its size. Yes Robert, I would say for the most part, they are trouble free, and a good one should bring ( depending on location and condition) anywhere from $2500 to $5000. If you are looking at buying one I would definately recomend one. Wide Open

1600's are pretty good tractors. Some came without power steering so watch for that. Gears can be a little hard shifting. Some start good, some start bad and can be choppy once cranked. Good pto speeds. All around solid tractors. On average they bring somewhere in the 2-4K range.
