I have a 1962? Oliver 550 Diesel that has become difficult to crank. I am fairly certain that the fuel lift pump is bad. When the fuel lift pump is manually pumped - - fuel spews out around the plunger. I am guessing that the fuel system is losing pressure and causing the difficulty cranking. Any mechanics out there agree? And where can I find a lift pump to replace the bad one ?

If you are talking a tractor with a Roosa fuel system which a 1962 550 will be you are talking about the priming pump and if they suck air you do have problems. All those other guys are talking about a Bosch system which is totally different. You probaly do not even have a mechanical pump as in 1962 they did not use that set up. Questions/

My suggestion to you randy is to take some WD40, and a sledge hammer. Spray the sledge hammer with WD40 and then strike the pump with as much downward force as you can muster. If this doesnt work try running a high electric current through your tractor. Failing this buy a new tractor.

I have a S55 that had the same problem. If the fuel is spewing out around the lift arm, you probably have a ruptured diaphram. This will also fill the crankcase with diesel fuel. Faust Bros. has rebuilt pumps but they can be slow at times. They are advertised in the Oliver magazines. I"m in Charlotte. If I can help, send me an Email @ [email protected]

You can get a kit at tractor supply .It has the seals and springs. It may take a bit of time for them to get it because they need to order it.
